Nurse's Night In: Unwind and Relax with DIY Spa Treatments

As a hardworking healthcare professional, your days are filled with dedication, compassion, and resilience. While staying busy and getting those daily wins can feel amazing, it's crucial to take some time for self-care and to unwind after long shifts. What better way to do that than by treating yourself to a relaxing night in with DIY spa treatments? Follow along for some great facemask recipes and a step-by-step of creating a relaxing oasis wherever you are!

Set the Scene

Before you start, take some time to set the perfect mood for relaxation! Dim the lights, grab some candles, and choose some soft music. Aromatherapy also works well here! While these things might feel small, creating an environment where you can fully unwind will really help you embrace your self-care routine.

Create a DIY Face Mask

Pamper yourself and your skin with an easy-to-make facemask! Our two recipes are perfect because they’re all natural, incredibly hydrating, and made out of ingredients that you can probably find in your fridge.

Recipe One: The Cleansing Avocado Glow Mask

Avocado isn't just a delicious addition to your salads, it's also packed with nutrients that do wonders for your skin. This hydrating face mask will leave your skin feeling refreshed and glowing!

Ingredients:

  1. One ripe avocado

  2. One tablespoon of honey

  3. One tablespoon of plain yogurt

  4. One tablespoon of olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Mash the ripe avocado in a bowl until it forms a smooth paste

  2. Add honey, plain yogurt, and olive oil to the avocado paste and mix well

  3. Apply the mask evenly to your clean face, avoiding the eye area

  4. Relax for 15-20 minutes as the mask works its magic

  5. Rinse off the mask with warm water, gently pat your face dry, and admire your newfound radiance

Recipe Two: The Rejuvenating Oatmeal and Honey Mask

This nourishing face mask is perfect for soothing and calming tired skin. The combination of oatmeal and honey will leave your face feeling completely refreshed!

Ingredients:

  1. Two tablespoons of oatmeal (ground into a fine powder)

  2. One 1 tablespoon of honey

  3. One 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt

Instructions:

  1. Grind the oatmeal into a fine powder using a blender or food processor.

  2. In a bowl, mix the oatmeal powder with honey and plain yogurt.

  3. Apply the mask evenly to your face, gently massaging it in circular motions.

  4. Allow the mask to sit for 15-20 minutes, giving you time to relax and unwind.

  5. Rinse off the mask with cool water, pat your face dry, and feel the difference in your rejuvenated skin.

Relax with a Bath Soak

A warm bath is the perfect way to really unwind and care for tired muscles (while giving your facemask some time to do its magic)! To truly embrace the spa experience, add in some Epsom salts to soothe soreness or oatmeal to get some relief for irritated skin. Throw in some of your favorite bubbles or a bath bomb, grab a book or listen to a podcast, and let the relaxation come your way.

Guided Meditation

If you want to take your spa day to the next level, round it off with some guided meditation to give your brain a break. Find a quiet space, keep the lights dim, and find a comfy spot to get into the zone. Apps like Headspace or Calm offer a multitude of guided meditations, but if you don’t want to download anything, there are thousands to choose from on YouTube as well. Pick one, close your eyes, and get started!

Treating yourself to a DIY spa night is a wonderful way for nurses to unwind and indulge in some much-needed self-care. So, put on your comfiest robe, mix up your favorite facemask, run the bath, and let the relaxation begin. You deserve it!
